Euro Apocalypse: The Rape of Millions is a Statistic
The death of one man is a tragedy, the death of millions is a statistic.
On January 28 I posted a simple post with only one picture and one quote: the picture was the painting Greece on the Ruins of Missolonghi by Eugène Delacroix. The quote was from a newspaper article, titled IMF tells Greece it will lose control of budget in return for bail-out. I had nothing to add, no insight or idea I wanted to express, just a feeling that a whole country was being raped and I wanted the painting and the quote to convey my disgust.
Then some days ago I heard that the students of Cambridge University were protesting because Dominique Strauss-Kahn, head of the IMF at the time of the first Greek bailout, was coming to visit and lecture. My first thought was that they were protesting the public figure who lead the IMF, but I quickly found out that they were actually protesting because of the allegation against him of rape.
The problem is not that they were ignoring the important and concentrating on the individual, but that the allegations themselves are suspicious. Just from watching the news I think three possibilities exist to explain what happened in that hotel room:
- He forcibly raped her.
- She participated voluntary.
- An international conspiracy to ruin his reputation and public career.
Despite championing the cause of the accuser the New York prosecutors dropped the criminal case against DSK. The students of Cambridge university hold him guilty nonetheless and consider an invitation to him as ”an affront to all victims of sexual crimes” (source: Cambridge students protest against Dominique Strauss-Kahn visit). Most probably he did not forcibly rape her.
We can speculate on international conspiracies as much as we like, but there is scant evidence and the man accused himself has not expressed such beliefs . This leaves one possibility: the woman participated voluntary. I do not want to be unkind to her (or champion the cause of DSK), but almost all explanations to why she accused him of rape are bad.
Students in North Africa fight, with their lives, against tyranny. Students in most parts of the world are fighting daily to improve their lives. Students in Greece are emigrating because their country has been ruined by a selfish class of rich and powerful people. Most young people in Europe are not planning on starting a family or having children because of the economic situation. One does not have to look far to find a worthy cause to protest.

In the month that the European super-state is facing the abyss, war is fermenting in the Middle East and the super-committee is heading to deadlock. At a time when Egypt, Libya, Syria are in turmoil and warmongers threaten war against Iran. The democratic governments of Europe are being replaced by unelected technocrats with questionable loyalist. The Congress and President of the United States abdicating their duties to a back-room committee. At these times where do we find the youth of the United States?
Police in riot gear used pepper spray to disperse thousands of protesters chanting “We Are Penn State” early this morning after football coach Joe Paterno and university President Graham Spanier were fired in the wake of a child sex-abuse scandal.
Police acted shortly after midnight after people threw bottles and other objects, tore down a lamppost and overturned a television van near the campus of Pennsylvania State University. Students covered their faces with sweatshirts to shield themselves from the burning and stinging spray, and many moved away as an officer’s megaphone blared that they would be breaking the law by remaining. The smell of gasoline leaking from the van hung in the air.
Really! This is the most important news on Google News (with 11000+ sources)?! The headline on Bloomberg?! They riot because an overpaid 85 year old man got fired?!
The reason for firing him was his role in handling “child sex-abuse”. The Catholic Church reputation was destroyed and the institution bankrupted for similar reasons, but they riot when this man only gets fired.
Those with no job prospect and who would probably graduate with student debt are rioting because this man who have had a job for sixty years was fired. The university is a state university, established thanks to a land grant from the Federal government, those attending are exactly the ones who are expected to fare worse than their parents, yet they riot for a man with questionable morals:
In 1995, Paterno was forced to apologize for a profanity-laced tirade directed at Rutgers then-head coach Doug Graber at the conclusion of a nationally televised game. He was also accused of “making light of sexual assault” in 2006 by the National Organization for Women which called for his resignation, and was involved in a road rage incident in 2007.
After five years of court battles, the Pennsylvania State Employees’ Retirement System (SERS) revealed Paterno’s salary in November 2007: $512,664. He was paid $490,638 in 2006. The figure was not inclusive of other compensation, such as money from television and apparel contracts as well as other bonuses that Paterno and other football bowl subdivision coaches earned, said Robert Gentzel, SERS communications director. The release of these amounts can only come at the university’s approval, which Penn State spokeswoman Lisa Powers said will not happen. “I’m paid well, I’m not overpaid,” Paterno said during an interview with reporters Wednesday before the salary disclosure. “I got all the money I need.”
In 2008, due to a litany of football players’ off-the-field legal problems, including 46 Penn State football players having faced 163 criminal charges according to an ESPN analysis of Pennsylvania court records and reports dating to 2002, ESPN questioned Joe Paterno’s and the university’s control over the Penn State football program by producing and airing an ESPN’s Outside the Lines feature covering the subject. Paterno was criticized for his response dismissing the allegations as a “witch hunt”, and chiding reporters for asking about problems.

If students are really the barometer of society then the US society is beyond hope. Nothing will overturn the rottenness of every aspect of life in the US. The youth of America have been missing in action since they disappeared in a haze of drugs and sex in 1969, the latest generation has come back from the wilderness feral. The End is Nigh.

Now that the Federal Reserve has announced a new wave of government debt monetization all commentators are discussing inflation, but I was talking about inflation (see Defining Inflation) when the media and almost all of the investment minded commentators were obsessing about deflation.
In Here is my Handle Here is my Spout I tried to use the image of a teapot that has both a handle (deflation) and a spout (inflation): The economic crisis might start with a severe bought of deflation, but it will only end after the heat of inflation burns society. Now that everyone is on board, I think I will skip ahead and see what will happen after the inflation fever goes down.
In this post I will look at the effects of the coming inflation (I hold the view that hyperinflation is a relative phenomenon depending on the time-scale, see Beware the Boom! for further discussion) on a certain section of the US public, namely American Jews.
They will wash their hands
Until a couple of generations ago Jews in the Western world were hated and regularly prosecuted. This Western hatred is sustained by the charge that the Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. The strange thing about this story is that the Romans were the ones who arrested, prosecuted, tortured and then crucified Jesus, but the Jews were the one to get the blame (remember dear reader that these are the beliefs of the Western culture and not my own).
24 So when Pilate saw that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood; see to it yourselves.”25And all the people answered, “His blood be on us and on our children!” 26Then he released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.
When powerful people want to commit a crime they first find a partner who is willing to stand in front of the cannon. After the cannon goes off those in power usually wash their hands of their former partner and let the people vent off their anger with a pogrom or two. The Jews have a long history of willingly standing before the biggest and heaviest cannons, the ones that take the longest to load and then make the biggest bang.
In Granada they become the inner circle of a corrupt ruler. When the people could not take the corruption any more it was the minister who took the fall:
On December 30, 1066 (9 Tevet 4827), a Muslim mob stormed the royal palace in Granada, which was at that time in Muslim-ruled al-Andalus, assassinated Jewish vizier Joseph ibn Naghrela and massacred many of the Jewish population of the city.
—1066 Granada massacre, Wikipedia
Badis, the ruler, continued until his death in 1073.
In the West it was the cardinal sin of usury (see Bacon on Usury) that was given to some Jews to carry, while those in power stayed in the shadows. When the people have enough of the economic rape and pillage of usury, the Jews are dropped by their partners, who sit watching while the people carry on a holocaust of all Jews; the banker and the doctor, the rich Jew and the poor one are all burnt by the fire.
There are two lessons: the first is the same people who help the Jews to attain high office and gain vast riches, will stand watching while all Jews are punished in their place. The second is that the social bonds that keep the Jewish community united and holding its traditions and religion, will make almost all Jews partners of the few who get involved in social crimes (e.g. corrupt rule, financial corruption, corrupting media, etcetera)
The Great Inflation of 2011-2012
Jews seem to have assumed the task of dollar devaluation in the American Empire. They seem to be present at every turn of the long decline of the dollar that have dissipated 98.5% of its value (from $20.67 to $1400 per troy ounce of gold).
Paul Warburg, one of the leading advocates of the establishment of a central bank in the U.S. and one of the first governors of the newly established Federal Reserve System, came from a prominent Jewish family in Germany. Several Jews have served as chairmen of the Fed, including Ben Bernanke, the current Chairman, and Alan Greenspan, the prior chairman.
—American Jews, Wikipedia [my emphasis]
Of course the modern economy is influenced by the likes of Milton Friedman, Paul Samuelson and Paul Krugman (all three received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, a prize set up by a central bank and not part of the Nobel legacy.)
Jews involvement in US finance precedes the establishment of the central bank:
American Jews in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries played a major role in American finance or “Wall Street”, both at investment banks and investment funds… As was true of their non-Jewish counterparts, family, personal, and business connections, a reputation for honesty and integrity, ability, and a willingness to take calculated risks were essential to recruit capital from widely scattered sources. The families and the firms which they controlled were bound together by religious and social factors, and by the prevalence of intermarriage. These personal ties fulfilled real business functions before the advent of institutional organization in the 20th century. Nevertheless, antisemitic elements often falsely targeted them as key players in a supposed Jewish cabal conspiring to dominate the world.
Since the late 20th century have Jews played a major role in the hedge fund industry, …. They have also played a pivotal role in the private equity industry, co-founding some of the largest firms, ….
—American Jews, Wikipedia [my emphasis]
Wall Street reputation in the eyes of the US public has nothing to do with “honesty”, “integrity” or “ability”. People view the financial powers in Wall Street as a parasite that has successfully attached itself to the state and is sucking the life out of the economy for the enrichment of the few.
Social bonds that keep the Jewish community united turn into a stigma that inflicts all Jews, whether they work on Wall Street or in a Hospital, after all the doctor might have studied on a scholarship given by the banker. Guilt by association is the motif of our times.
After the inflation subsides and the people have a minute to think about what is happening, they will start looking for someone to blame. The ruling elite in the United State will want to give the people a scapegoat. Foreigners will be blamed: China, Iran and Mexico will be punished somehow, but this time the people will not be satisfied with just external enemies and they will start looking for internal ones.
In Germany it took 10 years from the hyperinflation until the Nazi party formed the government in 1933. After hyperinflation things do not go back to normal, despite the apparent normalisation. Such massive economic rape of the population will change everything, but it might take a while for the change to appear on the surface.
Is Israel the solution?
By the time Jewish Americans start thinking of moving to Israel, that state will be in collapse, but let us assume there is a perceptive American who can see what is coming (maybe a reader of this blog) and decides that it is better to bring up his children in Israel. Would he be right?
As a student of military history (see Conquering Russia: The Holy Grail of Strategy) let me assure all readers of this blog that the famed Israeli Defence Forces will have their heads handed to them very soon. Forget David & Goliath, think more of Tiglath-Pileser III and Nebuchadnezzar II. Once the East wakes up and rises almost all the world will cut ties with Israel, eventually even the US will wash its hands of Israel.
But long before that happen the economic situation will suffer greatly as the world turns away from global trade and energy costs rises; the social situation in Israel will greatly decline as the military burden rises on the state budget.

Robert Rubin, Bill Clinton's former Treasury secretary, spent 26 years at Goldman before becoming chairman of Citigroup — which in turn got a $300 billion taxpayer bailout from Paulson. (click picture for article)
Israel might have taken a million Jew from the Soviet Union in the 1990′s, but those were the ones who could not make it tot the US and so took the second best option, i.e. Israel. The Jewish community in America is actually bigger than that in Israel:
The Jewish population in the U.S. totals 5.2 million people, consisting of an estimated 4.1
million adults and 1 million children in households and 100,000 Jews in institutional settings.
Jews reside in 2.9 million households with a total of 6.7 million people, both Jews and non-
Jews.—National Jewish Population Survey 2000-01 [my emphasis]
And those going to Israel will not be young pioneers willing to go live in collective farms in the desert, nor orthodox Jews who live in settlements surrounded with Palestinians where they try to out-breed them. They will be getting middle aged urban couples with one or two children.
The American Jewish population is older than the Jewish population ten years ago and the total U.S. population now. The median age of the Jewish population is currently 42, five years older than the median Jewish age in 1990 and seven years older than the overall median age for the U.S. population. The proportion of children in the Jewish population stands at 20%, compared to 21% 10 years ago and 26% for the total U.S. population now. Atthe other end of the age spectrum, 19% of Jews are elderly, defined as 65 years of age or older, compared to 17% in 1990 and 12% for today’s total U.S. population.
—National Jewish Population Survey 2000-01 [my emphasis]
By the time these people realise that they are no longer a (privileged) member of the top nation on Earth, they would be totally demoralised and exhausted. They would be looking for a place to take refuge and not participate in a forlorn hope defence of a lost crusader state.
Not only is Israel not the answer for American Jews, I believe that Israeli Jews themselves will be seeking refuge in other countries when the Islamic world discovers that they have sold billions of oil barrels for worthless US dollars.
Hie thee to Siberia
So what Jews, not only in the US but around the world, should do? In my opinion they should head east instead of west and go to the promised land
Birobidzhan (Russian: Биробиджа́н; Yiddish: ביראָבידזשאַנ) is a town and the administrative center of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Russia. It is located on the Trans-Siberian railway, close to the border with the People’s Republic of China, and is the home of two synagogues, including the Birobidzhan Synagogue, and the Jewish religious community of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast.
—Birobidzhan, Wikipedia
It might sound crazy for an urban New Englander (or a professional from Los Angels) to quit their life and move to Moscow, let alone a sleepy hamlet in the middle of East Siberia, but the point is that does he want to find himself and his family in a refugee camp being denied entry to third rate failed state?
The US will not turn into Nazi Germany, but Jews might find themselves in the same situation as Christians in Iraq today. They will become a target, their life will worsen little by little. Even years after the beginning of this trend people will still hope that things can go back to the way it was. Waiting until the last moment will mean suffering the worst conditions, leaving early means getting at the best moment. Cashing out and immigrating to Birobidzhan today, will place one’s children in the best possible position to enjoy the future growth of Birobidzhan.
We will close with a poetic quote:
Hie thee to France,
And cloister thee in some religious house:
Our holy lives must win a new world’s crown,
Which our profane hours here have thrown down.—The Tragedy of King Richard the Second, Wikisource
Abolish Mixed-Gender Schools NOW
The alleged gang rape of a 15-year-old girl on the campus of Richmond High School in Northern California while 10 or more witnesses, most of them students, looked on has sparked familiar questions: “Why are our kids so messed up?” “Why didn’t these students try to stop the crime?” “What’s happening in our schools?”
All it took for things to lurch out of control, investigators, students and community leaders say, was opportunity – and that came when the girl left the school dance Saturday night, walked by a group of bad boys boozing hard in the unlit courtyard, and accepted their invitation to hang out.
Fueled by street-macho bravado and inspired by sexual initiations required to get into some local gangs, they began the attack, investigators say.
In How to Reform Schools and Educate People I wrote the following:
Separation of girls and boys is the number one priority of secondary education, without this initial condition whatever system is implemented is doomed to failure. Secondary education was always separate, not only in space but also in style and subject. Only recently has the mixing of adolescent males and females been accepted as ‘normal’, while for centuries these two have been kept apart-for very good reasons.
The exceptional moment of well brought-up girls and boys, living in small New-England twons, where everyone were middleclass and people left their doors unlocked has well & truly passed away (even if we assume it really did exist). To build a universal system on exceptional cicumstances is a great folly only surpassed by the thought that such an abnormal system should be exported by force to the whole world.
Now that life in the US resembles an impoverished police-state, this system has turned into an endless nightmare. The East has learned over centuries of civilisation—that went through good and bad times, through times of safety and times of fear, times of personal self-control and times of animal barbarism—that girls are not to be left alone in the company of men.
Activists of human rights groups particularly Amnesty International, the United Nations Human Rights Commission, feminist organizations as well as public figures and government officials in the West joined the crusade in condemning the Taliban for the restrictions. Some called the restrictions “gender apartheid”, others labelled the Taliban ” oppressors” and “segregationists.” Madam Madeiline Albright even called them “despicable.” Still others viewed the measures as the imposition of Pashtun tribal codes on the liberated city females. Of course, all condemned the measures as a violation of women’s basic rights. More serious, governments even though some of whom had signaled signs of good will toward the Taliban until then withheld recognition of them as government mainly because of the restrictions. They were only called “a rouge state”, and treated as such. Nevertheless the Taliban went on with the restrictions as if not a single voice of protest had been raised.
The critics, to my knowledge, did not address the question why the Taliban did not heed the protests, and why did they impose restrictions in the first place? They just condemned and demonized apparently for political reasons. The short answer is that the Taliban cared for the Islamic Shari’a as they know it, for the lives and security of women, and the suppression of the crimes associated with rape, abduction and fatherless unborn.
Before the Taliban entered Kabul women were, among other criminal acts, raped during the entire Islamic Tanzimat period on a scale unheard of in Afghanistan. Women who disappeared after sexual assault in Kabul during this period numbered 30, 000 according to Sharee’a, the official weekly of the Emirate. Even handicapped and mentally deranged women of an institute in Kabul were raped. The list of rapes of individual women by individual armed men and groups is too long to note. Only a few instances are noted here.

O Squalid Old World
The following was quoted in the Wikipedia article Brave New World:
“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one. Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism. Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance. Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy. As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny “failed to take into account man’s almost infinite appetite for distractions.” In 1984, Orwell added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we fear will ruin us. Huxley feared that what we desire will ruin us.”
—Neil Postman in the foreword of his book Amusing Ourselves to Death.
Life is so diverse, so complex, that no one vision can capture it completely. Today we live in a world where:
- Books are banned and there is no reason to ban a book.
Books are not banned by a political censor but by a publishing industry that function as the gatekeeper to what may or may not be published. The Internet is full of text that would never be published by the industry and yet hardly anyone wants to read. So the political power has no reason to actively ban books (except a few that are written by insiders) because they know that most books will not be read.
Before the reformation books, including the Bible, were in Latin and there was no reason to ban them, attempts to translate the Bible were met with prosecution and massacre.
- We are deprived of information and we get too much of it.
- The truth is concealed and drowned in a sea of irrelevance.
We are deprived of exact and timely information and we are drowned in incidental and non-essential information. Without information—no matter how smart we are—we can never know the truth.
- We are a captive culture and a trivial one.
Those who are not trivial, who do not spend their lives following the latest celebrity “scandal” are captive in enclosed academia or high-powered career. They enter their cage willingly, even competing to get a place, because it is the only escape they know from the triviality.
- People are controlled by pain and pleasure.
- We are ruined by our fears and desires.
People are so different, so diverse—this is a natural consequence to the fact that each person is physically different: some are tall others are short. Some are healthy; others are sickly, et cetera—that while some give up to their pleasures, others have more self-control and vision and have to be intimidated by the threat of pain. Nevertheless a generation grows up that is willing to endure the pain and that is when physical elimination becomes necessary, the Russian Empire achieved that by exile to Siberia, the Military rulers of South America by ‘disappearing’ tens of thousands, other countries do it by constructing the world’s largest prison system.
Gender Separate Schools Make the Front-page
In How to Reform Schools and Educate People I wrote the following:
Separation of girls and boys is the number one priority of secondary education, without this initial condition whatever system is implemented is doomed to failure. Secondary education was always separate, not only in space but also in style and subject. Only recently has the mixing of adolescent males and females been accepted as ‘normal’, while for centuries these two have been kept apart-for very good reasons.
The Guardian newspaper published the following article on its front-page:
“Girls are far more likely to thrive, get GCSEs and stay in education if they go to a single-sex school, according to new research, which reveals pupils who are struggling academically when they start secondary school reap the biggest rewards of girls-only schooling.
The analysis of the GCSE scores of more than 700,000 girls taught in the state sector concludes that those at girls’ schools consistently made more progress than those in co-ed secondaries.
The fact that pupils with the lowest test scores when they started secondary made the biggest leap in girls’ school will reopen the debate about whether more children should have access to a single-sex education in order to drive up results.
…
However, other leading academics said the research was more conflicting. Alan Smithers, director of education at Buckingham University, said: “We know across the piece that the main variables relating to exam success are pupil characteristics, social background and quality of teacher. There is very little space for gender in the classroom to make a difference. Where it apparently has an effect it relates to other factors, such as the aspirations of the parents who want their daughter educated in a single-sex school. But if this is true it will change our understanding.”
Sue Dunford, headteacher of Southfield School for Girls in Kettering, said: “It’s a question of confidence in the way girls develop. It’s cool to be very good at anything in a girls school – maths, sciences or physics. No one will ask why you’re doing a boys’ subject. Girls who lack confidence can thrive more in girls-only schools. We don’t have boys competing and distracting, so girls can really go for it.”"-Girls do better without boys, study finds, 18 March, The Guardian [my emphasis]
Alan Smithers is talking nonsense, what he says is exactly what the financial wizards of Wall Street said, he closes his eyes and sees only his ‘model’.
The Guardian also had an opinion piece about this story by Anne Perkins:
“Today, single sex schools are best. It’s in the land of pleated skirts and firm but fair women teachers that the best environment, and the best teaching, is found for girls to thrive. But other studies have come down as often in favour of co-education, or at least undermined the claims for the advantages of single-sex teaching by factoring in other circumstances like parental ambition and catchment areas.”
-Kudos in the land of pleated skirts by Anne Perkins [my emphasis]
In my post I wrote:
Schools for girls should be run by stern commanding women who resoundingly suppress the destructive tendencies unleashed by oestrogen. Girls at this age are highly vulnerable and they should be chaperoned and supervised at all times.
Ms. Perkins continue:
“Now if you put boys and girls who have been socialised like this into school together as puberty strikes, then what the girls think the boys think of the girls is likely to be a pretty key part of their self-esteem. And that is what the research finds – that attractiveness to the opposite sex is a much more important element of self-esteem in co-ed schools than in single-sex ones.
In my experience, single-sex schools leave most girls with a freedom to experiment, to be themselves, that might be denied to all but the most confident in co-eds. And even if the iron hand of gender conformity strikes the moment they get to the bus stop, there is at least a rival source of self-esteem from within the classroom.
Girls in single sex schools undoubtedly yearn for male company (and, speaking personally, berate their parents for depriving them of it). But they can escape, anyway during school hours, from being validated by their success in attracting it. “-Kudos in the land of pleated skirts by Anne Perkins [my emphasis]
The problem is exactly that “girls…yearn for male company” at that age, that is exactly the reason they should be kept apart! Like keeping hydrogen and oxygen apart, both elements have of course a ‘yearning’ for each other and if they should come in contact with other an explosion is the only result.
Hyperinflation and Gold Stocks
Introduction
Today I would like to re-visit a subject that I have already covered twice. In When Gold is Worthless and Hyperinflation and Gold Bugs I argued that gold is not really the safe haven that some advertise it to be. My concern here is historical rather than economic, I am not interested in investment or wealth management; what concerns me is society and the ability of the economy to benefit all members of society.
There is a strong egotistical streak hidden behind the mask of Individualism, the predominate philosophy of gold bugs and those interested in preserving their wealth from the approaching hyperinflationary storm. Egotism is a shortsighted stance that eventually costs more at the end than what it promises at the beginning. Those who recognise that the system of fiat money is doomed are duty bound to do something about it, trying to save only themselves by buying gold is an egotistical solution that will fail at the moment it is most needed.

How to Reform Schools and Educate People
Introduction
The single most important task of society is to educate the next generation and prepare it for life. Sadly education is everywhere a total failure. Education does not consist of sending children to schools, education does not stop when a person reaches a pre-determined age or receives a formal certificate from an institution. Education is a life long journey of guidance in which the older generation passes on the knowledge and wisdom of humanity to the younger generation.
The social process of education has completely broken down. The current generation are not even equipped to educate their offspring; they lack the basic understanding of child rearing and guidance. They themselves have had substandard education; this was due to large-scale social movement, the destruction of the family structure and most importantly state interference in the education paradigm.
In this post I will present general principles. These are not my invention, they do not reflect my personal opinion and they surly do not reflect my own upbringing, so I cannot be accused of favouring my own culture or childhood and presenting it as an ideal-a large number of writers in the last century moved from rural to urban society, their writings usually reflected the rural ideal of life presented as an ideal for humanity at large.

Hyperinflation and Gold Bugs
I recently heard, on a web-cast, a gold bug saying that the coming hyperinflation-due to the $700 billion Paulson plan-will be beneficial to those who have gold. Is that correct? The answer is a resounding NO.
Inflation does not increase the value of bullion it just changes its price in fiat currency. The price of a house in the US measured in gold is about the same it was in 1970, while in dollars the price has multiplied. The value of gold remained the same while the price increased twenty times.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Society
There are certain actions that have a short-term gain but a long-term loss such actions are attractive but deadly. When a person commits a sin he usually does it to attain a short-term pleasure, but all sins have a long-term pain and that’s what makes them sins.
Social sins are not the sum of people’s sins, they are sins on the social scale and not the individual scale, of course all social phenomena must manifest themselves on the individual scale, each individual participates in every social phenomena.
The time scale for social phenomena is not the scale of the individual, usually actions that are committed by one generation have results that manifest themselves in the next generation, so that social sins might not function as a sin for a single individual who enjoys the pleasure and leaves the pain for others; those who live too long will view their age as a curse when they suffer for the deeds of their youth.
If we would rise from the individual level to the social level and view society not as the sum of all its individuals but rather as a living organism with a life of its own, then we can view the actions taken by society, as a whole, and the consequences of these actions on society and its well-being. When the actions of society have a short-term pleasure and long-term pain then we can call them social sins.
Here are the seven deadly sins of society:
